einer aus dem forum wollte mit seinem TR7/V8, einem ehem.Werkswagen, an der Deutschland Rally teilnehmen. wenn es nederländische kollegen waren, hoffe ich nicht, daß es die gewinner des zuschauervotings des eifel rallye festivals 2013 waren.

An accident waiting to happen....

This car should NOT be taking part in such a rally and gives the same disregard for safety like the infamous Georg Plasa accident 2 years ago.....where Georg met his death at 200km/h into a rock face.

It was for many years Plasa actually was lucky.....and the car had been modified in such a way as to make such accidents unsurvivable.

Please read, and THINK NOW.......

The TR7/TR8 rally cars were always very poor and prone to high speed accidents unless you had the talent of Tony Pond, Burns, Jimmy Mcrae, or Malcom Wilson, and even then, - they even crashed them very often.

(look at 6.18' & 7.21')

A friend of mine tested the TR8 as a production car for the factory and told me many times, how they used to go out of control very suddenly on the road and made "holes in the hedges" every week coming out of the BL Gaydon test centre.
These were works prelaunch cars with EFI and the twin plenum used in the Rover Vitesse....and not made into the production.

They used to go STRAIGHT on, in a quite unprovoked and scary way, and to make matters worse they have extremely poor visibility forward and backwards when off the ground or even slightly sideways.

This isn't the first classic race car fatality and it won't be the last.

Like many cars of the 1980s-1990s it wasn't the motosport was dangerous it was the CARS, like the famous Toivonen accident.

At this point you should have noticed that roof and cage have been cut off by the rescue team.
And pay some respect in stead of the usual 'I know everything better' attitude.

Bitte habe Respekt vor Rob und Marcel sie waren zwei lebenslustig und hilfsbereite Menschen.

Meine mitgefühl gilt den beiden Familien und Servicemannschaft.

You are wrong here.

It's well known classic and historic racers are always taking totally inconsiderate risks, just for the sake of appearances.

I have a lot of experience of European hillclimbs.
They are considered even more dangerous and with 500-550bhp on tap with only 900kg I have a right to consider safety much more carefully than you obviously are.
Have you ever driven such a motor? I doubt it.

Here I repeat was an accident WAITING TO HAPPEN.

The fact is, people like you will continue to put your head in the sand.

Safety is NOT a luxury, and people know my opinions well enough to know I don't take it lightly either.

(I also do motorsport and often have to test people's cars to get them set up properly).

It's time for people to grow up and take responsibility and for the system that sends 2 enthusiasts to their death for no point whatsoever....

they were not even taking part in a proper international motorsport event...

I know about professional motorsport, at which point fewer people die, because we engineer survivability in.

Some old knackered Triumph TR7 V8 has nothing built in except obsolete dangerous 1980s technology, and I stand by that 100%.

Sorry for the poor guys who killed themselves utterly pointlessly.

Yes I've been shit out of a 380bhp Renault 5 turbo 1 during testing...a proper international spec works rally car, and I survived.
(Thanks to a properly built car with safety margin)

FYI:-
We went sideways down a narrow country at 150km/h + when the throttle got stuck open, and rolled over 3 times....luckily not end over end...

Is that good enough for you?

I have plenty of experience of near death including being shit over a ditch sideways again & rolled 3 times, at 130km/h in a Triumph Spitfire WITHOUT a roll cage and WITH a passenger...and survived...

(FYI,- That was the closest I came to death in the last 3 years and the passenger got 3 broken ribs)

I'm fed up with people coming up with these lamentations after very clear warning such people are likely to kill themselves AND SPECTATORS.

It was just the same at Cargraphic in Landau with all those crap aftermarket parts people they were fitting..

...then the inevitable brake fracture and hitting the armco at Nurburgring ...doettingerhohe at maximum speed.

That incident in 1993 could EASILY have killed the driver too.

du solltest Marcs Bemerkung ernst nehmen und etwas mehr Respekt zeigen. Vielleicht ist es einmal an der Zeit, über die Risiken des Oldtimersports zu reden. Aber nicht in diesem Thread hier.
